Access control is the selective restriction of access to and from your facility.  It is based on pre-programmed criteria in a physical access control system (PACS) and then uploaded to an access control panel (ACP). Once loaded the access control system autonomously determines who can or cannot enter or exit and when and where they are allowed to enter or exit.

When access is granted, the door is unlocked for a predetermined amount of time and the access transaction is recorded.

When access is denied, the door remains locked and the attempted access is recorded.

The system also monitors whether doors are forced open, opened by means outside of the issued credential or held open longer than their allocated duration of time.

Video surveillance is a digital system comprised of network cameras (TCP/IP), network video recorders (NVR) and a video management systems (VMS) capable of capturing images and video that can be compressed, stored and retrieved later over a communication network.

The main difference between video surveillance and CCTV is that in video surveillance the images and video is captured in the digital format. This negates the need for the media to be converted and it can be stored compressed by a CODEC such as H.264 - MPEG4 or H.265 - MPEG-H.
